Discrimination: the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, esp. on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
Introdution I chose the song, "Buffalo Soldier" by Bob Marley. The reasons I chose this song was because it sings about an important turning point in history for black Americans. If it were not for the buffalo soldiers we may not have blacks serving in the army. "Buffalo Soldier" is about the African- American regiment of army that served after the civil war mainly during the Indian wars in the late 1860's. This song talks about racism in the time of the buffalo soldier and how their ancestors were brought over and used as slaves. At the time the Buffalo Soldiers were in the 10th Calvary Regiment but as time went on and they became more accepted and spread out to other Calvary Regiments. Native Americans gave them their nickname because during the winter when they were wearing big jackets and riding on there horses the, they would mistake them for buffalo. When the song was written civil rights was a very big topic all over the country during the 1960's.

"Buffalo Soldier" is a very strong historical lyrics even thought it is not all completely accurate. This song is ironic and so is the history because the Buffalo Soldiers were fighting against the Indians in the Indian wars for a country that continued to persecute them. Becoming Buffalo Soldiers was one way of African Americans trying to "fit in" and be what was thought to be "normal" by many racists. In the song Marley talks about how African American's have had to fight for their rights and their lives ever since they were first brought to the United States.

    Opinion Piece
Nobody should ever have to go through what African Americans went through to get to this point and time in life. Rights and respect should not have to be earned of given, they should be given "free of charge" to every living creature. It is a shame that discrimination is even a word. Black Americans have gone a long way to get to where they are now, and that is something to celebrate. Change (the campaign slogan for first Black President) is a good thing in the end even if people have differently opinions about it in the beginning. A good thing for humanity to do is to stop any kind of discrimination, start with something little and easy. Notice the good things about people, bring to the world, before the bad.
